New Fiorentina goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has suffered a potentially serious injury to his left knee in a friendly yesterday.

In the 48th minute of his new team’s match against Galatasaray in Istanbul, Viviano went down in visible pain after conceding a goal and had to be escorted off the pitch with his knee bandaged and iced.

An official statement on Fiorentina’s website confirms that the Italian international has suffered a lesion and will undergo tests on Thursday to determine the extent of his injury.

The 26-year-old has been loaned to the club this season after spending the second half of last term at Palermo.

The injury has left fans worried, as Viviano suffered a complete tear of his anterior ligament in the same knee last summer, whilst on the books at Inter causing him to miss the first six months of 2011-12.
