Fiorentina are through to the Fourth Round of the Coppa Italia after a 2-0 victory over Novara.

Vincenzo Montella made his official debut at the Stadio Franchi in this evening’s Coppa encounter and gave the captain’s armband to Stevan Jovetic, though Alberto Aquilani was out injured.

The Viola were set out with a 3-5-2 formation including new buys Borja Valero and David Pizarro.

Manuel Pasqual’s header hit the post, while Romulo incredibly ballooned over an open goal when sent clear by Adem Ljajic.

The goal did arrive before the break when Pizarro set up Ljajic to acrobatically turn in from six yards.

Jovetic rattled the woodwork again after combining with Ljajic and the result was secured when Pasqual’s angled free kick found the far bottom corner.

Novara only really tested goalkeeper Neto once with a Motta snapshot.

Fiorentina go into the Fourth Round, where they will face the winners of Juve Stabia-Sampdoria on November 28.

Fiorentina 2-0 Novara

Scorers: Ljajic 43 (F), Pasqual 54 (F)
