Ciro Ferrara admits “it hurts” to be eliminated on penalties after Sampdoria’s Coppa Italia adventure ended at the first hurdle.

Last night the Blucerchiati could only hold Serie B side Juve Stabia to a 1-1 draw and lost the penalty shoot-out.

“We played a good game against an organised and aggressive side,” said the Coach.

“We did well, even if we weren’t that effective in front of goal. We can’t do anything other than accept the result and look ahead.

“I didn’t see any steps back compared to our friendly against Schalke 04. It hurts to be eliminated, but the performance was not negative.

“I have my own idea of football and I will try to push it forward, even though I realise it will take patience and courage.”
