Stefano Pioli feels Bologna “did not deserve” their 3-1 defeat to Milan last night. “We paid for our mistakes at both ends of the field.”

The Rossoblu had cancelled out a controversial early penalty, but Giampaolo Pazzini completed his hat-trick late on.

“We did not make the most of the chances we created in the second half and paid for our mistakes at both ends of the field,” said the Coach.

“After the break if there was a team that deserved to go in front, then it was Bologna, but unfortunately we didn’t manage to get the goal.

“The lads gave their all and did not deserve defeat from this performance. We knew we could not afford to get it wrong against Milan, but we did.

“In any case, I am satisfied with the performance and the attitude of the squad. We are competitive and can have a good season.”

Alberto Gilardino was given his Bologna debut as a substitute, having only completed his move from Genoa on transfer deadline day.

“You cannot argue with Gilardino’s pedigree. We believe he has the quality and character to score the way he used to.

“We just have to be more concentrated in defence, attack the space and be more precise in front of goal.”
