The Genoa-owned striker was on his way to the Milanello training ground for a loan switch in the last days of the transfer market, but the move never went through.

It had been reported Coach Massimiliano Allegri turned him down, but the Brazilian offers a different version of events.

“I was at Genoa and the director said there was this opportunity. When I went to Milan I thought it was one thing, but it turned out to be another,” Ze Eduardo told Sky Sport Italia.

“I had a good contract with Genoa, so said no to this option. It’s true, I had been injured, but a year ago I was playing for Santos, the best club in Brazil. I do not feel it right, with all due respect, to go to Milan for an audition. I have dignity and didn’t want to go through a trial run.”

Instead, Ze Eduardo has joined Siena and hopes to finally make his mark on Serie A after barely featuring last term.

“I aim to have a great season and I’m happy to be here in Tuscany. The Coach has faith in me. I am Ze Eduardo and want to impress with Siena so I can let my name be known in Italy too.

“Serse Cosmi is a great man. When he arrived, he immediately talked to the squad and showed he is someone who wants to win.”
