The chaotic situation saw the defender arrive in the summer, but he flew back to Argentina after Independiente claimed they had not received the instalment.

“We followed up all our commitments,” insisted Genoa general manager Alessandro Zarbano.

“We deposited the contract with the Lega and FIGC, signed by Independiente and the player. The international transfer rules state both clubs must register the move with the TMS (transfer matching system).

“Genoa have done it and Independiente have not. Therefore we turned to FIFA in order to receive the transfer. In a couple of weeks, we are counting on having this international transfer confirmed.”

However, Velazquez is back in Argentina and blames Genoa for the breakdown in communication.

“It is the dream of every player to be in Europe, but if things don’t go well then I cannot despair,” he told Ole.

“I hoped it would go well, as Independiente needed the funds and I wanted to grow as a player. Now Genoa say they paid €700,000 but we don’t know into what account!”
