Roma’s chief medic admits Dodo and Federico Balzaretti are improving rapidly, “but we are a little worried about Daniele De Rossi.”

The midfielder pulled up with a suspected thigh strain during Italy’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria on Friday evening.

The Azzurri had already completed all their substitutions, so he tried to carry on for a few minutes, but eventually gave up.

De Rossi has already been sent home from the Italy training camp ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Malta and will undergo tests tomorrow.

“Both Dodo and Balzaretti are improving ahead of schedule, but we are a little worried about De Rossi,” Professor Michele Gemignani told Roma Channel.

“A clearer evaluation will be made tomorrow. At the moment, this is the injury that is keeping us most concerned.”

There are fears that if a thigh strain is confirmed, then De Rossi could be out of action for a month.

“Michael Bradley is also improving and following the intensive training programme. We want to get all the players available for our Coach as soon as possible.”
