Gennaro Gattuso is adamant that Serie A will once again be an attractive proposition for the world’s top footballers.
The Italian game has lost some of its biggest names to wealthier European clubs in recent years, but the World Cup winner isn’t overly concerned.
“The game is going through a restructuring with the departures of players like Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain,” he stated.
“However, the great champions will return to Italy – also because life is good over there. Patience is needed.”
Gattuso left Serie A in the summer, after his contract with Milan expired, to join Swiss outfit FC Sion. And he could have been followed by Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero before he opted for Sydney.
“The Sion President did everything he could to sign Del Piero, but he preferred to make another decision.”
The midfield warrior was also asked for his opinion on Antonio Cassano’s decision to quit Milan for city rivals Inter.
“Cassano had problems with himself and he didn’t fit in the Milan squad,” the World Cup winner continued.
“My exit? I left on good terms with Vice-President Adriano Galliani and the Berlusconi family, but I didn’t have a good relationship with boss Massimiliano Allegri.”
