Walter Mazzarri hailed Goran Pandev as his “ideal player,” but also criticised Napoli’s performance against Parma.

The Partenopei are top of the table with a 100 per cent record after three Serie A rounds, having beaten Parma 3-1 this afternoon.

“Considering all the scoring opportunities we had, we took far too long to finish off the game,” moaned Mazzarri.

“Until the result is under lock and key anything can happen, especially against a side like Parma who can always put you under pressure. We ran a pointless risk despite dominating the match and were fortunate not to be punished.

“We have become more solid and confident, but still need to be more clinical.”

Pandev returned from a two-match ban after his Italian Super Cup red card and was decisive with goals and assists.

“For my type of football, Pandev is the ideal player,” said Mazzarri. “He is one of the best players in Europe when it comes to setting up his teammates and I fought very hard so he could stay here.

“What of my future? I will continue as long as I have strong motivation to transmit to my players.”
