Ciro Immobile scored Italy’s only goal in the Under-21 European Championship play-off against Sweden and had a special dedication.
The Genoa striker marked the goal at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara with a cradle gesture, as he has recently learned he is to become a father.
“It is very exciting and perhaps the greatest day of my life, so I dedicated it to my girlfriend for this joy she is about to give us,” said the 22-year-old.
The second leg is in Sweden on Tuesday evening and the Azzurrini wasted numerous chances to give themselves a stronger advantage.
“We were lacking a little determination in front of goal and the Coach said so at half-time. We have some regrets and could’ve done better, but we are going into Tuesday’s game to fight it out.
“Sweden are a strong side, but we do not fear anyone – with respect and humility, of course.”
