Marco Verratti “would probably have gone to Napoli” if PSG hadn’t stepped in, confessed Pescara director Daniele Delli Carri.
The Italy midfielder shot to fame with his hometown club in Serie B last season and was in a bidding war this summer, eventually ending up in Paris.
“PSG contacted us in the first days of June. If the French club hadn’t arrived, then Verratti would probably have gone to Napoli,” Delli Carri told Radio CRC.
“The Partenopei were in the lead compared to Juventus.”
Verratti’s teammate at Pescara last year was Lorenzo Insigne, who returned to parent club Napoli.
“I would’ve left him out on loan at a smaller Serie A side for one more season, so he would’ve gained experience and returned to Napoli even more mature.
“On the other hand, playing alongside great champions can only help him to improve.”
