Italy continue their World Cup qualifying campaign on Tuesday evening when welcoming Denmark to San Siro.

Balotelli missed Friday’s 3-1 win in Armenia due to a heavy cold and is on the road to recovery, but it remains to be seen if the Manchester City striker will be ready to start.

It would be SuperMario’s first match in this stadium since Inter 4-3 Chievo on May 9 2010, while he has not played for Italy at all since the Euro 2012 Final.

Giovinco limped off during the Armenia match with a swollen ankle, but chief medic Professor Enrico Castellacci assured it was “nothing worrying.”

The news this morning is that Buffon is carrying a muscular problem and could well be rested for the crunch match with Denmark.

Cesare Prandelli does not want to risk injuring the shot-stopper just days before a JuventusNapoli Scudetto showdown.

Napoli’s Morgan De Sanctis would be next in line, but PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu is also an option.

Prandelli has already confirmed that Giorgio Chiellini will start in defence, while Ignazio Abate, Federico Balzaretti and Stephan El Shaarawy could also feature.
