Lazio playmaker Hernanes has admitted that at some points last season he was demotivated in the Italian capital.

The 27-year-old midfielder has conceded that it was only the introduction of Coach Vladimir Petkovic that reignited his desire for the team, and wants to repay his boss over the coming campaign.

“Last year there were times when I was demotivated,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “And I think if you want to do something well you have to have motivation.

“It is important to have that stimulus, and at the end of the season I had lost that.

“I have recovered though, thanks to Petkovic – who has been really important, because his desire to win has helped, not just me, but the whole team.”

He also remarked on the match against Milan this weekend, and rumours that he could be on his way to New York Red Bulls next summer.

“Are we favourites against Milan? There should be no illusions about this – Milan are Milan, and this has not changed. They are a team full of great players.

“There are many rumours,” he added. “We have never talked, because I am happy here [in Rome]. I have always said this because it is true. I am very happy to be here with Lazio.”
