Massimiliano Allegri tried to see the positive side, but confessed Milan “could get sucked back into the relegation zone” after their 3-2 defeat to Lazio.

The Rossoneri have lost a staggering five of the first eight rounds, something that has only happened before in 1930-31, 1938-39 and 1941-42.

“We tried to control the game without leaving ourselves open to Lazio’s counter-attack, all the while creating something up front, but Lazio did what they had to very well,” noted Allegri.

“Tonight the team did create chances and worked hard, so I think there are some positives to take from this match.

“We paid the price for the only two shots on goal that Lazio had in the first half.”

There was at least an attempt at a comeback, as the San Siro giants were 3-0 down before eventually capitulating 3-2.

Milan are only two points off penultimate place and, had it not been for Siena’s six-point penalty, would be two clear of the last spot.

“A Coach will always be put under pressure, but it’s only normal that we have to get back up the standings.

“We’ve got to start picking up points, otherwise we will get sucked back into the relegation zone. Obviously, we must also avoid certain errors.

“Recently the team has not been getting the results it has deserved with performances on the field. In the first half we played the same way we did against Parma.

“Kevin-Prince Boateng? He did not play the first half to the level of his abilities, so I substituted him.”
