Massimiliano Allegri “will stay in his place. There is no desire at all to change the Coach,” insisted Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani after defeat to Lazio.

Saturday evening’s 3-2 loss at the Olimpico represented their fifth defeat in the opening eight rounds of the season. It is their worst start in 60 years.

“This is a difficult moment and we must have to strength to stay calm so we can overcome it,” said Galliani.

“Of course we never seem to get even an ounce of good fortune, but that too will turn in our favour eventually.

“We have to look forward, as on Wednesday we play Malaga in the Champions League and must hope this moment will pass.

“There are some positives to be seen, as Nigel De Jong and Stephan El Shaarawy are playing well.”

Undoubtedly, the disastrous run of seven points from eight games leaves Coach Allegri at risk, but Galliani is adamant there will be no sacking.

“The Coach will stay in his place and must find a way for the team to pick up points and emerge from this moment. There is no desire at all to change the Coach.”

Should Allegri be axed, the most likely replacement would be current assistant manager Mauro Tassotti, who has already worked under Carlo Ancelotti and Leonardo.

Tassotti would also represent a suitable short-term solution, as for next season Milan are already looking to Pep Guardiola or Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti.
