Zeman on Udinese and Agnelli

Zdenek Zeman prepares Roma to face Udinese and launches another sideswipe at Juventus. “They had 20 years to change football...”

The Giallorossi got back on track with last week’s 4-2 win at Genoa and hope to continue their improvements tomorrow evening.

“Dodò is in the squad and could make his debut, though it remains to be seen whether he can play the whole game or just a part,” said the Coach.

“In the midfield I have seven available players, only three can be used, so I make my choices based on their form and the opponents.”

Zeman was asked whether Francesco Totti is the only senior player who has fully assimilated his complex tactical ideas.

“That is your evaluation. The media claim Totti follows my guidelines, but also say that Totti plays wherever he wants to, so make up your minds. Quite simply some are able to apply the tactics better than others and some worse than others.”

Udinese are struggling to get into gear this season and were beaten 3-1 by Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday.

“They are a good team, even if they have changed a great deal. In past seasons they also started very badly and eventually qualified for the Champions League, so we must respect them. Like Napoli, they always go for the result.”

Zeman has long been critical of Juventus and was questioned on President Andrea Agnelli’s statements this week. The patron urged reforms to help clubs construct their own stadiums in order to revitalise Serie A.

“He is right, there have to be reforms and everyone says so. Quite another matter is the fact Juventus had 20 years to change football when they were at the top and did nothing.”
