'Best birthday of my life!'

Stephan El Shaarawy admits he was “moved” to score against his old club and revive Milan’s fortunes. “It’s the best birthday of my life.”

The Little Pharaoh turned 20 today and celebrated by netting the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Genoa.

“I am moved, as it’s the best birthday of my life,” he told Sky Sport Italia. El Shaarawy refused to celebrate as a sign of respect for his former fans.

“I am excited and happy, both for the victory and the goal. Is this my Milan? I’m happy people are saying that. I just try to give my all and put myself at the disposal of the Coach.”

The Rossoneri were thoroughly uninspired up until the goal, so El Shaarawy may well have saved Massimiliano Allegri’s job.

“The club has always believed in Allegri. Now we must continue like this and think about the next game. This goal does help boost our morale and I prefer the 3-4-3 system.”

Alexandre Pato made his first start in eight months, although looks far from his best form.

“We know the quality that Pato possesses, as he is a great champion.”
