Alexandre Pato is doubly overjoyed at last night’s win over Genoa, his first start in eight months. “I am alive again.”

The Duck returned from a lengthy injury lay-off after a series of muscular problems and played 72 minutes of Milan’s 1-0 victory at San Siro.

“I am alive again,” smiled the Brazilian. “I played, I ran, I sprinted and I didn’t feel any pain. I am so happy.

“I like to play and to do well, so it was a very important evening for me. I was able to do everything and felt no pain, so I feel good.

“Unfortunately I didn’t manage to score, but I tried to help my teammates. I hope to score soon, hopefully in the next match.”

Stephan El Shaarawy found the net for a crucial victory, his sixth Serie A goal in nine games and a fine way to mark his 20th birthday.

“El Shaarawy is growing and is a great player,” noted Pato. “He is on the right track and I hope he can do very well at Milan.

“We struggled, but it was important to bring home the three points after recent defeats. Now we must forget all the other results and focus on the next game.”

Serie A Week 10 is a midweek round, so Milan are back on the pitch against Palermo on Tuesday night.
