Milito tackles Juve taboo

Diego Milito has had plenty of success in an Inter jersey, but Adam Scime notes he just can’t seem to score past Juventus…

Diego Milito has been at the heart of Serie A success, Champions League glory and other trophies for Inter – but scoring against Juventus appears to be a taboo.

Inter have often come short in recent seasons when facing the team from Turin. With another impending Derby d’Italia fixture tonight, the South American footballer has yet to arrive at a certain destination on his journey – he has never breached Juventus’ defence while sporting a black-and-blue kit.

Milito recently played his 100th Serie A game for Inter, scoring in the process in a 3-1 victory over Bologna last weekend. Arriving at the club in the summer of 2009, the veteran striker has played in 150 official games and found the back of the net 71 times, an imposing ratio of 0.47 goals per match or nearly a goal in every two appearances.

However, the ability to beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Co has constantly eluded him, despite runs of impressive form, since he made San Siro his home. The two teams have met seven times – six in Serie A and once in the Coppa Italia – with Il Principe featuring in five of those matches, but he has been unable to put one past their eternal rivals.

Even when you consider the Trofeo TIM preseason tournaments, which involve 45-minute matches between Inter, Juventus and Milan, the Argentine has only damaged Juve in the event of a post-match penalty shoot-out to break the tie over the course of four editions.

The 33-year-old himself admitted his Achilles heel last season and has seemingly even become frustrated by it.

“I have never scored against Juventus so far for Inter and I will do my utmost to end this streak in our encounter,” he said in March, before the Bianconeri won 2-0 and Claudio Ranieri was subsequently replaced by current Coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

In fact, the last time Milito struck against the Old Lady was from the penalty spot for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Genoa, a consolation effort in a 4-1 loss during the 2008-09 campaign.

Going into Saturday’s match at the Juventus Stadium, the former Real Zaragoza star is in a rich vein of form with five goals to his name in 10 League games in 2012-13. His club are also undergoing a purple patch of six victorious League games on the trot.

Milito already has a place in the hearts of Inter’s tifosi and the club’s history, scoring crucial goals to claim silverware. His crowning moment thus far was when he conquered the Santiago Bernabeu by putting a brace past Bayern Munich to claim European glory, but if he strikes a devastating blow to Juventus and terminates their 49-game unbeaten streak, then the club’s fans will have another historic moment to remember him by and Milito will have reached another milestone in his ongoing treasure hunt.

To all the inter fans here,it felt more appropriate waiting T least a month after the game, and boy was i right!!!!Inter have proven what a top side they really are, after all just look at their results and the help they get from other teams via own goals.A real class act.Amazing game against Juve though, but that's expected since inferior teams tend to kill themselves to get a result against the big teams, and then go back to their real level later

Well, congrats to Inter. But honestly, there seems to be somethin weird on d recent "soft-act" by d referees towards Juve. Despite d hardwork from Agnelli&Juve's legal team on d court ruling of Calciopoli (whom ruled out evidence of Inter part on the scandals). It's stupid if Juve involved in another scandal. It's just not make any sense. In my view, there is another party that trying to make a negative public opinion against Juve and takin adv of the situation. The Q is, who? or which club?

Amazing how cocky juve fans are. you can barely tie the weekest of CL teams and have undeservedly got many points in serie a. juve got dusted up worst then the movember above my lip.uve will start losing its clear now to beat juve you must attack them. gonna be fun to watch them lose points in coming weeks while the absolute legend Zanetti and his men show there class. i mean did god personally carve zanetti's legs. practically every minute of every game!! forza inter!! serpente 4 life

Angelo Alessio cannot take the bench role, Carrera was much better. Alessio is all talk. We need Conte!

Bendtner is pure rubbish and must not play. We lost our style after he came on.

Inter played very well, I hate to compliment Inter, the worst club owners in the world. I wud have prefered losing to Milan.
But Strama is a genius, he is the reason Inter played so well. Inter very lucky to have him. Without Conte we dont stand a chance.

I admire d grace with which Juve fans have taken dis defeat. Inter fans can celebrate and I say congrats to them. They played well in d 2nd half and exposed Juve's problems. I just can't help but wonder what d reaction of everybody would have been if it was Juve who got dat penalty. Its now obvious; JUVE NEED A QUALITY STRIKER DAT CAN KILL OFF CHANCES. GET FALCAO NOOOOOOOOW!

What a great match for fans and neutrals. That bieng said juve goal offside penalty although a little soft legit how juve didn't go down a man is a mystery juan jesus was a beast and outside the first ten minutes and the last five inter looked like they controlled most of the play. Also thank u asamoah for being lazy and keeping palacio on side just wished strama would have keep milto on could have been a hatrick, also inter were only team in serie a who would be able to handle juve deep squad

Wow a RuBentus who blames the referee for a loss - how the hell do you sleep at night? There is no doubt there was a penalty. There was no doubt that RuBe deserved every one of those cautions.

But there was a RuBe gift of a goal and 11 men on the field who should have been sent off - another gift. And still you have the stones to complain about the ref RuBe lover? Wake up will you?

You lost despite being spotted a man and a goal - that's how badly you lost today! Get out of dream land.

Proud Juve fan and as others have been saying well played Inter, they were fantastic and deserved their win, finally the lack of a proper centre forward was telling today and maybe this is the shock in the arm we needed as far too often we have got lucky this year. Inter haven't had much to smile about for a few years now so enjoy your win.

On another note Zanetti really is a legend.

On a more petty note why did it have to be Inter of all sides to beat us it had to be them grrrrrrrr.

I'm sure glad Juventus unbeaten lucky run has come to an abrupt end.

Forza Milan

FORZA INTER !!! NOTHING beats winning the "Derby d'Italia" , Juve had to score their normal offside goal and hell on earth did they not have 10-men on the field ? still Inter showed the great character and determination to beat our most hated rival. Eat ya words Juve fans !

Good win Inter, you deserved it!! Yes you fans deserve to celebrate this victory as well since your team came away with three points against us which isn't easy. However i will point out the Ref. was horrid and the early mistake to give Juve the goal was more then made up for by giving Inter all the 50/50 decisions the rest of the game. There was also no real penalty there either but again the small incidents went against us and Inter simply played better the rest of the game. Congrats!

The only thing that helped Inter is Alessio. He blew it. Forza Juve. And Inter, you will get back to where you belong, to the 6th & 7th.
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 11:28pm
Congratulations to Inter. They deserved the win. Stram was the difference in this game, he had a great plan for us but crucially reacted decisively during the match. Unfortunately our obvious weakness was Conte in the stands. Alessio simply lacked courage at the crucial time in the game. After the penalty, Pogba should have replaced Vidal. The injection of energy would have countered Inter's midfield momentum. Quag for Caceres was just moronic! Anyway, Stram and Inter deserve respect. Forza J!

Now stop writing about Juve juve juve juve, and start writing about the Inter comeback, how amazing it is, how magical Stara is, a legend in the making, How we are building a full team from scratch, how we have the best young defender in the league, how we have the best youngsters in the league and maybe in Europe. how Zanetti`s 19 year old owned Juve`s left side or how Gargano owned Giovinco. now start writing what matters and quite bwing such a biased site!

on the 3rd November, 2012 at 10:56pm
You juve lickers talks non-sense too much.

WE come to your stadium and beat the hell out of each ofone of you out-rightly and decisively.

We don't even suffer in the match and control the game.

WE proved to everyone that juve can only beat weak team, against strong team like Inter, you are nothing.

And since even your only goal is clearly off-side, lets cancel that off.

The real final result is INTER 3 juve 0.

Now where's Juve fan? Inter is overrated? Hahahahaha you don't even have proper attacker... eat your 3-1 loss, and even your goal has to be gifted by referee lol
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 10:07pm
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Football-Italia your precious RuBenus as lost - despite all the favor in the world that money can buy. I can't wait to read more about RUBENTUS every day of every week ahahahahahaha
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 10:02pm
3-1 INTER. Nuff said, Rube overrated. Once again they needed help from the refs with that offside goal and there should have been a red for Litchstiener. Anyway, we are victorious in the end and break you. FORZA INTER!!!
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:58pm
Well well, 3-1 to Inter depsite the ref and linesmen and to braces from Milito.
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:55pm
If Inter carry on as they are they could well end teh season as champions. I'm feeling anxious about palermo match tomorrow tonight, we have to win at all costs. Listening to Antonello Vendetti Grazie Roma, hopefully at fulltime tomorrow that will be belting out at teh olympico. No matter how bad it gets I will always have my scudetto video from 2000/2001 to watch, what a magical day against parma. Totti, Montella and Batigol. Magic. What a season.
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:54pm
I guess the juve cheaters will zip it now. Inspite of an offside goal, a red card not issued to Lichsteiner and the first half Palacio goal not allowed, Inter still won 1-3. Forza Inter

Oh yeah, the unbeaten record is over now
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:49pm
Well done inter, very much deserved. I feel sorry for Buffon he couldnt have done anything about the goals, he was unlucky on both the 2nd goal after a great initial save and 3rd goal. It must be horrible for a goalkeeper as great as Gigi to concede 3 goals. Juve defense was poor today. Juve only really played when behind. Inter s win has really opened up the league now. It will be interesting to see how the defeat impacts on Juve, they cant afford a hangover with a must win in europe midweek
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:49pm
Ha! Looks like Inter won in the end. FORZA INTER!
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:49pm
Yay I got the score right..well sorta...I need to lie down :)

Grats to Inter on a well deserved win.
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:43pm
If we could get a €100k for Giovinco we would be lucky. Coach tonight blew it.
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:38pm
If you can get anything right mr Alessio please take off Giovinco!!!
on the 3rd November, 2012 at 9:28pm
Intermilan have really done well to change and revamp the entire squad with good signings and have a vicious trio upfront of palacio-milito-cassano but head to head with out strong defence of barzagli-chielini-bonnuci juventus should have no problem countering the attack, it could well be a midfield battle - pirlo marchisio vidal asamoah vs cambiasso gaurin gargano zanetti , tonights going to be one hell of a match! FORZA JUVE! lets make it 50 tonight!
