Rolando Maran believes the ‘pañolada’ planned by Catania fans in protest at referees can help them get back on track against Lazio.
The Elefantini were furious after their 1-0 defeat to Juventus, in which they had a perfectly good goal disallowed, so the supporters are planning the traditional protest of waving white handkerchiefs before kick-off.
“It is a civilised way of protesting and can really fire us up on the field,” said Coach Maran.
“It’s a pity to lose important points in the final minutes against Udinese or for refereeing errors. We deserve more than the 12 points we currently have in the table.
“I want to see the same attitude against Lazio that we saw in the second half in Udine, where we were the only team on the pitch.
“We showed great strength and unity. Leandro Castro also showed that those who don’t always play are still very important for this team.
“Lazio are a strong side and I see no weak points. We must play like Catania, with an attacking intent, as it is the only way to beat them.”
Gonzalo Bergessio has shaken off an injury and is back in the squad for the Sunday afternoon match.
