Marco Verratti turned down a move to Roma in 2010, Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani has revealed.

It’s no secret that the player rejected Milan as a youth, but it now appears that he also snubbed the capital city outfit.

“He was destined to become a great and he deserves everything that he has received so far in his career,” Sebastiani noted.

“Two years ago, a deal with Roma for him was practically done, but it was Marco himself who turned them down in favour of staying at Pescara.”

Verratti helped his hometown club win the Serie B title under Zdenek Zeman last season, before joining PSG in the summer for €12m.

“We couldn’t turn down PSG’s offer for Verratti,” Sebastiani added. “It was the chance of a lifetime for him.”

Verratti is back in Italy tonight as he’ll start for the Azzurri in their friendly versus France.
