Having baulked at Edinson Cavani’s price-tag, it’s now reported Arsenal want a January swoop for Inter’s Ricky Alvarez and Milan’s Philippe Mexes.

The Gunners are struggling in both the Premier League and Champions League this season and were linked with a £30m offer for Cavani, which is well below Napoli’s price-tag.

According to Italian media sources, Arsene Wenger has instead set his sights on cheaper options in Serie A.

Alvarez is spending most of his time on the bench at Inter and has suffered from several injuries, putting the 24-year-old on the transfer market.

He was signed from Velez Sarsfield in July 2011 after being very close to joining Arsenal, so this would be a renewal of their interest in the player.

It is also rumoured by TMW that Arsenal are interested in veteran Milan defender Mexes, the former French international who has not impressed this season.
