Napoli hotshot Edinson Cavani doesn’t seem bothered that he failed to make the shortlist for the 2012 Golden Ball.
Despite an avalanche of goals in Naples since his arrival in the summer of 2010 from Palermo, the striker is not one of the 23-players up for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
“If the Golden Ball did arrive then it would be something extra, but the most important thing is always the team and not personal accolades,” he told Il Mattino.
The Uruguayan international has scored 80 goals for the Azzurri, numbers which have made him into one of the most wanted in the European game.
“My future is the present,” he added. “I’m happy at Napoli, my teammates are fantastic, the fans are very passionate and my family is settled here – it’s all fantastic. I’m happy I came here.”
Napoli started the season with hopes of winning the championship and that dream is still alive – despite the five point gap that separates them from leaders Juventus.
“We put them under pressure during the Italian Super Cup Final in Beijing,” Cavani continued. “It was also close in Turin until we conceded late on.
“We are there, even if it is very balanced at the top seeing as Inter, Fiorentina and Lazio are more or less on the same level.”
