Luca Toni and Alberto Aquilani are in the squad for Sunday night’s match with Sampdoria, though both will need last-minute fitness tests.

The pair were expected to sit out tomorrow’s Serie A game after picking up injuries, especially as Toni has not resumed training since a nasty clash of heads with Torino defender Kamil Glik.

He was diagnosed with head trauma and spent a night in hospital, then sent messages over the last few days suggesting he would be cheering on his teammates from the stands.

However, in a surprise move Toni is included in the squad for Sunday’s fixture, though he will only be allowed to play if the medical staff give the all-clear tomorrow.

Aquilani also appears to have shaken off an injury, although he too needs a fitness test.

As Stevan Jovetic, Adem Ljajic and Michele Camporese are all unavailable, the Viola need all hands on deck.
