Zdenek Zeman refused to speak to the media after Roma’s defeat to Chievo in protest at the refereeing. “He said he’d be happier not talking.”

The Giallorossi were on a run of five consecutive victories in all competition, but were beaten 1-0 at the foggy Stadio Bentegodi by a Sergio Pellissier goal with suspicions of offside.

“Zeman has opted not to come to the Press conference today. He said he’d be happier not talking,” explained director Franco Baldini.

“Some things didn’t sit well with him and he didn’t want to stir up controversy. The offside goal wasn’t the only incident.

Roma tried to take the initiative and perhaps the right result would’ve been a draw. We were unable to play the game we wanted to, but we’re still certain that we can fight with the top clubs.

“Of course we could’ve done more today, as the performance was decent in the first half and less so after the break.

“We lacked the right fitness levels and the pitch didn’t help a team like ours that plays with ball to feet.”
