Vladimir Petkovic concedes Lazio only scraped past Siena in the Coppa Italia, but “the important thing was to qualify.”

Siena had been in control at the Stadio Olimpico until Michael Ciani equalised at the 95th minute to force extra time. Juan Pablo Carrizo saved two spot-kicks in the penalty shoot-out to set up a Quarter-Final match with Catania.

“The important thing was to qualify, albeit with a big struggle, but we did it,” said the Coach.

“In the first half we made life rather difficult for ourselves and played a little too cleanly, while after the break the substitutes gave the boost we needed.

“Siena deserve credit, as they were solid and pushed us all the way. Fortunately we believed to the very end.

“Carrizo deserved this chance to play with his attitude and I am pleased by his performance. With his saves, he helped push his teammates towards an important victory.”
