Serie A Team of Week 19

Dave Taylor selects his best XI from the latest round of action in the Italian top flight.

Mattia Perin [Pescara]

Undoubtedly Man of the Match. From his early block on Luca Toni to his outstanding saves from Nenad Tomovic and several others, he was the difference between a home team hammering and the snatching of three crucial away points. Exceptional.

Abdoulay Konko [Lazio]

The Frenchman pulled Lazio back into the game with his brave equaliser when he slid in like Miroslav Klose. Totally aware of the opposition forwards throughout and was always in control. Courageous.

Danilo [Udinese]

Led the back line like a lion leading his pride and equally as ferocious. Absolutely impermeable and silenced the normally menacing duo of Antonio Cassano and Rodrigo Palacio as if they were frightened antelopes. Imperious.

Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli]

On top form and between him and Juan Zuniga, Roma’s forward trio probably had their poorest game. He just could not be stopped. Awesome in defence, on the breakaway and smothered the Giallorossi strikers like syrup. Impervious.

Giovanni Pasquale [Udinese]

The 30-year-old left-back started his career with Inter and, after this game, they probably wished they had kept him. Completely ruled the left flank and kept the Inter forwards off balance all game. Solid.

Isaac Cofie [Chievo]

The young Ghana midfielder scored only his second goal in Italy and his first in Serie A with a splendid volley. Brought some substance to Chievo’s midfield and was always an outlet on the right. Essential.

Andrea Lazzari [Udinese]

A real thorn in Inter’s side all game and set up both his captain’s goals with perfectly placed balls. He is on loan from Fiorentina and, with more games like this, he will have his option bought out. Flawless.

Valon Behrami [Napoli]

Tenacious, he has been a great signing for Napoli. Always involved and ready to start attacks and defend. Adding depth and vision he out-thought and out-fought the opposition midfield with elegant ease. Persistent.

Mauro Icardi [Sampdoria]

The Argentine youngster scored a well-deserved brace against the League’s tightest defence. Running in from the right his first saw a right-footed half-volley fool Gianluigi Buffon, while his second smashed by Buffon from the tightest of angles. Sensational.

Edinson Cavani [Napoli]

“Ieri, oggi e domani!!!! Sempre Cavani.” A hat-trick and could have had two. Lacryma Christi. Like a teardrop from Heaven he has fertilised the lava bed that was Napoli and caused flowers to grow. Miraculous.

Antonio Di Natale [Udinese]

Scored a brace and perhaps could have had another two with one shot almost breaking the bar. Power, pace and anticipation were shown in both goals. Sprang the offside trap for the first, while he was in the right place at the right time for his second. Epic.

Special mentions: Goran Pandev [Napoli], Giuseppe Biava [Lazio], Pedro Obiang [Sampdoria] Antonio Candreva [Lazio], Vladimir Weiss [Pescara], Cyril Thereau [Chievo], Giuseppe Biava [Lazio].
