Alberto Malesani warns Palermo “start a new season now” as he becomes their third Coach of the season, replacing Gian Piero Gasperini.

The former Parma, Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”35″>Fiorentina and Genoa boss flew in to Sicily this afternoon to take over from sacked Gasperini, who in turn had replaced Giuseppe Sannino in September.

“It is from the most apparently difficult situations that the great achievements emerge,” said Malesani.

“I am in a great club and the offer motivated me straight away. President Maurizio Zamparini and I analysed everything and I will treasure the indications he gave me.

“I’m certain this is a good squad that still has to find its identity and that will be my toughest task. I’ll speak to everyone and try to extrapolate the right motivation to secure safety, which is what Palermo deserve.

“I don’t make promises, as I prefer to provide facts on the field. We have to pretend that we start a new season now, when we play against Pescara on Sunday.

“Nothing will be decided until the final round and we must try to finish above the bottom three.”

Malesani has signed a contract to the end of the season with option for another year after that. He brings with him assistant manager Ezio Sella, fitness coaches Paolo Aiello and Antonio Raione, plus goalkeeping coach Franco Paleari.
