The Elefantini are in joint seventh place with 36 points from 24 Serie A rounds.

“Consistent performances are the most important aspect and our position in the table is only a consequence of those games,” said Coach Maran.

“We must do well to remain concentrated on our main objective, which remains safety. I transmitted this message to the players, as we need to be realistic, even if the table looks good now.

“Once we have achieved safety, then we’ll see, but we have to take it one step at a time. I’m not trying to lessen our achievements, just to keep us on the same keel.”

Catania welcome Bologna this afternoon and have Mariano Izco back, but Pablo Barrientos misses out.

“We know that against Bologna we have to get close to the ball, as they have players who can really hurt us from distance. We need respect for our opponents, but in any case we’ll play open and attacking football.”

Catania squad for Bologna: 21 Andujar, 1 Frison, 29 Terracciano; 22 Alvarez, 18 Augustyn, 14 Bellusci, 6 Legrottaglie, 12 Marchese, 2 Potenza, 5 Rolín, 3 Spolli; 4 Almiron, 27 Biagianti, 19 Castro, 13 Izco, 10 Lodi, 24 Ricchiuti, 30 Salifu; 9 Bergessio, 35 Doukara, 17 Gomez, 26 Keko
