The agent of Genoa defender Andreas Granqvist has revealed that the player almost left the club in January.

“There were a lot of enquiries from Italian sides last month,” Alessandro Canovi told TMW on Thursday.

“He really was just one step away from leaving, but then President Enrico Preziosi decided to change his mind.”

The 27-year-old, a Swedish international, is the club’s most used defender so far this term as they look to stay in Serie A.

Although he has remained for now, he continues to be linked with other clubs as Milan became the latest to be paired.

“There are a lot of rumours flying around,” the representative continued. “But it will be up to Preziosi.

“All I can say is that the player right now, like the rest of his teammates, is just focused on avoiding relegation.”
