Cristian Bucchi is officially the new Coach of Pescara, albeit for only a month, and said the club was “very brave to focus on a young manager.”

The side sacked Cristiano Bergodi on Sunday after he picked up one point in eight rounds.

They had initially tried to appoint Giovanni Galeone, then Marco Giampaolo, but both Coaches turned down the job. Bucchi only has the paperwork to be a Serie A Coach for 30 days, so Pescara are looking to their Primavera youth team boss for the time being.

“The club was very brave to focus on a young manager,” said 36-year-old Bucchi in today’s Press conference.

“It’s a shame about the situation in the table, but I will try to shake the lads up a bit and give them some courage.

“There are 11 games to the end of the season and we will go out there to win every single one. I will ask my players to rediscover that enthusiasm that has been lacking recently.

“Everyone assumes Pescara are done for, so we will try to prove them wrong. Bergodi and Giovanni Stroppa did good work, because Pescara are still in the running and we knew it would be tough.

“I am not tied to any specific tactical systems, but we will start out from a four-man defence and see where we go from there.

“I believe in this squad. They have the right qualities and can do well. We cannot afford to promise the fans we’ll achieve safety, but we’ll try to the end.”
