There had been some controversy surrounding the date of the match, with elections being held in Rome at the same time as the game at Stadio Olimpico.

But the governing body's chief has insisted that the final will be held that Sunday.

“We have identified the date of May 26 for the final of the Coppa Italia,” he told reporters.

“We have utmost respect to the bodies responsible for protection and safety [of supporters], and we have retained that date.

“There have been precedents set with Milan matches being played during national elections.”
