Ventura: 'Viola surprise of the season'

Giampiero Ventura believes Fiorentina and Vincenzo Montella are “the real surprises of the season,” but his Torino can still cause them problems today.

The Granata visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

“Fiorentina have a lot of quality in their side and are the real surprises of the season, especially as they were able to quickly form a team packed with youngsters and undiscovered talents,” said Coach Ventura.

“I think their most representative players are Juan Cuadrado and Borja Valero, who have really made their mark. We have to face this game fully aware of how good our opponents are.

“Montella has some great ideas and in future can be a fantastic Coach. He already did very well at Catania and confirmed himself this season too.”

The trip to Florence is a very special game for Alessio Cerci, who is still co-owned by Fiorentina and had a very tense rapport with the Viola supporters.

“I hope it is Torino’s game more than just Cerci’s. If he plays the way he knows how, then there are no problems. The same is true of the whole team, as if we perform to our standard then Fiorentina have to worry about us.

“You don’t pick up points by putting up barricades. If you do that with six rounds to go, then it means you’re already relegated.”

Ventura and Torino must also prepare for the Derby against Juventus next week, but the tactician assured “our only objective this week has been getting ready for Fiorentina.”
