Vincenzo Montella says Fiorentina are prepared for the “mini-tournament” with Milan for Champions League qualification.

The Coach has impressed in his first season at the Stadio Franchi and the Viola are currently only one point shy of Milan in third place.

“We are ready for this mini-tournament of the last five rounds and are aware anything can happen,” said Montella on Sport Mediaset.

“Our primary objective is to consolidate our current position in the table, then try to catch Milan. We know that this will depend on both our own results and those of the Rossoneri.

“We must try to do our best. Milan are a club built to reach certain targets, so they won’t let themselves get affected by the fact Fiorentina are a point behind them.

“In fact, we still need to secure our qualification for the Europa League, which at the start of the season was considered an ambitious and impressive target.

“Fiorentina have their own identity and we built this team on the transfer market to play a certain type of football.”

Montella was asked whether he will sign a long-term contract with the Tuscan club, but insisted “they haven’t offered me one. We’ll see if it is proposed…”

While their Coach is sought-after, Fiorentina are above all eager to keep hold of star striker Stevan Jovetic.

“He has undoubted qualities and is a complete player who has not yet expressed himself to the full. In my view, he can and must aim for the top,” noted Montella.

“Adem Ljajic is already a guarantee for us, although that’s not to say he will take Jo-Jo’s place should he eventually leave. Ljajic can still grow a great deal, but he mustn’t rest on his laurels.”

Today Giuseppe Rossi got the all-clear from specialists to begin full training with his teammates, opening the door for a comeback before the end of the season.

“I am sure he will return stronger than ever, although I’m not entirely sure when that will be. We must not rush him or run risks. We hope to have him back in the last game of the year.”
