Giuseppe Sannino warns today’s game with Inter is “a crossroads for Palermo. It’s either Serie A or Serie B.”
The Sicilians are still in the drop zone along with Genoa and Pescara, but one point adrift of Siena. Click here for a match preview.
“We are at a crossroads for Palermo. There’s not long to go, so it’s either Serie A or Serie B,” said the Coach.
“If we were to get relegated, which is something I have never experienced, I know how tough it is to get back up. This is why we have got to try to the very end with every tiny opportunity we have to stay in Serie A.”
Andrea Dossena is suspended, but Fabrizio Miccoli returns from injury to partner Josip Ilicic, while Inter’s epic absentee list has expanded further.
“We have only one certainty, which is that Inter are stronger than us. We must play fully aware of that, putting our hunger on to the field, as that is our best weapon right now.
“They are men, just as we are. Don’t make me angry by saying Inter are decimated, as Massimo Moratti hasn’t built a team out of stickers. If we tell Palermo that we are not facing the ‘real’ Inter, then concentration levels can drop.”
In fact, Sannino expressed irritation at Inter Coach Andrea Stramaccioni’s complaints.
“If a President signs 40 players and the Coach moans because someone gets hurt, saying he loses games because certain players weren’t there, then I personally would get angry. If I didn’t have Miccoli and Mauro Boselli, then I’d play Mauricio Sperduti and consider him the best in the world at that moment.”
Confidence is boosted after their 1-1 draw with Catania in the Sicilian Derby, secured with the last kick of the game.
“All those signs with ‘B’ the fans held up should become something else, like B for Beppe rather than Serie B,” said Sannino.
“The day after that game we saw all the fans cheering us on in training and realised what we missed out on. These lads could’ve been heroes, so there are regrets. Our extraordinary fans deserved more.”
