Zibi Boniek says Roma snubbed his advice to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski while he was still playing his club football in Poland.

Lewandowski is now one of Europe’s most wanted strikers and underlined his talent by scoring four in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

“When Lewandowski was at Lech Poznan, I called my friends at Roma,” the former Juventus” data-scaytid=”11″>Juventus and Giallorosso forward noted.

“I told them to catch the first plane to Poland, to sign Robert, who then would have sold for just €1.5m, no problem.

“They just ignored me.

“He has plenty of quality and character. Besides being able to score goals, he has the nose of a goalscorer, I assure you.

“I do not understand why all of Europe needs to see him score four goals against Real Madrid to realise that he is a great player,” continued former Polish international Boniek.

“Leaving aside all that he has shown for Poland, was he not seen playing at Lech Poznan or Borussia Dortmund?

“Most important to Lewandowski is his head, his own belief in his potential. It is not easy to endure all that he did at the Bernabeu against Sergio Ramos and the other Real Madrid players.

“That showed his character, he wanted to get to the Final, he would not react to their provocations.”

Napoli and Genoa also had the chance to sign Lewandowski while he was still trying to make his name in the game.
