Italy are preparing for the Under-21 European Championships next month and Coach Devis Mangia is confident “we can have a great tournament.”

The Azzurri open their campaign against England on June 5, then face tournament hosts Israel on June 8 and conclude Group A with Norway on June 11.

The competition runs up to the Final in Jerusalem on June 18.

“We are working towards the Euros in the best way possible and we must thank Milan for letting us use their facilities,” said Coach Mangia.

The Azzurrini have been training at the Milanello ground, although Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi and Mattia Destro left on Saturday morning to prepare for the Coppa Italia Final.

Also forced to leave for the Serie B play-off semi-finals are Bardi, Rossi, Saponara, Caldirola and Regini.

“The lads have been very good so far and always showed enthusiasm, but now I expect consistency in this jersey. After all, we have the necessary time to refine certain aspects so we can become even more of a team.

“We’ve got the qualities to have a great tournament, if we manage to use our characteristics effectively. In the group phase we must raise the tension to the right level, as all our opponents are strong.

“England have excellent individuals, Israel are a compact unit who run few risks and have home advantage, while Norway are in top physical condition right now.

“Italy’s strength is that we are a team. I want to underline that Destro and Marco Verratti feel very much a part of that team, even though they have been working with the senior Italy squad recently.

“I am convinced the squad will reach this appointment with the right hunger and attitude, but details could well make the difference in this competition.”
