Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli reportedly turned down an offer to replace Walter Mazzarri at Napoli Coach this summer.

Prandelli, who is currently preparing with the Azzurri for a summer run of fixtures that include the Confederations Cup campaign in Brazil, was reportedly approached by Aurelio De Laurentiis at the end of the Serie A season.

The Gazzetta dello Sport report that Napoli’s President, in seeing Mazzarri resign on the last day of the season, contacted Prandelli with the same contractual offer that Rafa Benitez has now accepted.

It is believed that Prandelli, in being handed a two-year proposal at €3.5m a season, did not immediately say no.

The 55-year-old, who has indicated that he is keen to return to club management once his national commitments end in 2014, reportedly took his time to consider the offer, before turning it down.

De Laurentiis’ offer would have trebled Prandelli’s current annual salary.
