Coach Devis Mangia is waiting for news on Lorenzo Insigne’s injury and celebrating Italy’s qualification for the European Under-21 Championship semi-finals.

The 4-0 victory over hosts Israel booked their spot in the final four of the tournament, but Insigne was stretchered off in tears.

“I don’t know how Insigne is doing, as we are still waiting for news from the hospital,” Mangia told Rai Sport.

“He’s a great lad and he was the first to fire up his teammates tonight. We’ll have to wait and see what the test results are.

“Tonight we kept a clean sheet again and superficial people might’ve assumed this was an easy game, but we needed a strong performance.

“It’s wonderful to already be qualified after two matches. Now we will rest, focus on the third game and then the semi-final.

“We have already achieved one of the targets we set ourselves by progressing to the next phase. People often accuse Italy of not going into these appointments with the right frame of mind, but these lads are different. They played well throughout and controlled the game.

“Who would we prefer in the semi-final, Spain, Germany or Holland? We can’t make calculations.”
