Serie B side Palermo have officially confirmed 2006 Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso as their new Coach.

The now ex-midfielder has been handed a one-year deal in Sicily, with the option of a second, after ending his playing career with Sion.

Outside a brief player-Coach spell with the Swiss side in the last campaign, Gattuso has no other coaching experience.

The ex-Milan enforcer, now 35, will be presented to the media on Friday. Luigi Riccio will be his assistant.

Gattuso replaces Giuseppe Sannino, who is heading to Chievo, on the Barbera bench after he was unable to keep them in the top flight during 2012-13.
