Montolivo had to be substituted after suffering dizzy spells due to a knock to the head. He was taken to hospital for tests, which confirmed head trauma with slight concussion.

As for Balotelli, he was on the end of several crunching tackles and was spotted limping through the media zone after the game.

Andrea Pirlo already missed the Brazil match due to a calf problem and hopes to recover in time for Thursday’s semi-final, which is likely to be against Spain.

Ignazio Abate’s tournament is over, as he dislocated his shoulder following a challenge from Neymar.

Daniele De Rossi will return to the line-up, as he was suspended against the Seleçao.

The Azzurri travelled to Fortaleza today, where they will train at the Vargas stadium.
