Italy defender Christian Maggio believes Brazil’s Neymar receives too much protection from referees.
The two continually clashed during Saturday’s Confederations Cup encounter in a tie which Neymar inspired the hosts to a 4-2 win.
“I think the big players should be protected by the referees so they don’t suffer too many fouls, but only up to a certain point,” the Napoli wing-back stated.
“In my opinion, Brazil’s first two goals against us were born from free-kicks won by Neymar which were not fouls,” he added.
“In general, referees award more free-kicks to players who like to dribble, but that is just part of the game.”
Brazil will play Uruguay in the semi-finals, while the Azzurri will have to beat Spain if they want to reach the Final.
