Chievo fall in Cardiff

Chievo were unlucky to rattle the woodwork and force a goalline clearance in their 1-0 friendly defeat away to Cardiff City.

The Flying Donkeys visited Wales for today’s test match at the Cardiff City Stadium against the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Boukary Drame forced an early save and Sergio Pellissier pounced on a Whitts backpass to go round the goalkeeper, but Turner scrambled back to clear off the line.

Maxwell Acosty turned a free header over the bar from a corner, as did Noone’s volley, while Lorenzo Squizzi beat away a couple of dangerous Whitts free kicks.

Cardiff City broke the deadlock with Kim Bo-Kyung just shy of the hour mark, latching on to the rebound after Squizzi beat away a Noone effort.

Alessio Sestu was denied a penalty for a Brayford push and Squizzi was again alert on Ralls from distance.

However, Chievo were unlucky when Alberto Paloschi’s shot was parried back into his path and the follow-up hit the upright.

Riccardo Improta had two late chances to draw level, but Marshall held on for Cardiff’s slender victory.
