Cagliari have reached an agreement with the local council to use the Stadio Sant’Elia again from October, but until then play in Trieste.

The Sardinians have formally registered the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste as their ‘home’ stadium for the 2013-14 season.

It is today reported that the club has reached a deal with the local Cagliari council to return to the Stadio Sant’Elia almost two years after their last game here.

They abandoned the stadium in a row with the council over payment and restructuring work.

According to ANSA news agency, over the next couple of days the council will sign off on paperwork to begin the restructuring work and it should be completed by October.

Until then, Cagliari will continue to play their home matches in Trieste.

It’s reported the club agreed terms to pay an annual fee of €120,000 to rent the Sant’Elia on match days, though that could be reduced.

Last season Cagliari constructed their own stadium, the Is Arenas, which repeatedly failed security checks and was eventually torn down.
