Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti explained the tactics they’ll be using against Celtic and Mario Balotelli’s role.

The Rossoneri begin their Champions League campaign this evening by hosting the Scots at San Siro. Balotelli and Alessandro Matri start in attack with support from Valter Birsa. Click here for the line-ups.

“Mario’s job will be to stretch their defence and help the ball slip between the lines,” Tassotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have many players absent and know this is a delicate match, as we’ll battle for qualification against Celtic and Ajax. We’re on home turf and cannot get this wrong.

“Celtic have the characteristics of their country – strong in the air – but they don’t always throw it forward, kick and rush. They have talented players, at least that’s the impression they gave us from viewing the tapes.”

Milan are fresh from a disappointing 2-2 draw against Torino, as they fought back from 2-0 down and sealed it with a penalty in stoppages.

“It is never easy to prepare for a match when players are coming from international duty. We had only one day to prepare for Torino and you do pay for that.”
