The striker returned to the port club after a loan spell at Bologna in 2012-13, but he was a transfer deadline day target for Juventus.
“Gilardino already belonged to us and we are happy that he didn’t move,” Preziosi said outside of the Lega Calcio offices this morning.
The 31-year-old looked like he would be heading to Turin to replace Roma-bound Fabio Quagliarella. The latter would have then released Marco Borriello to cover Gila at Genoa.
However, reaching an agreement that satisfied all parties proved impossible before the transfer window shut at the start of this month.
Genoa had a rough start to the season with two losses, but they responded superbly by beating derby rivals Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”12″>Sampdoria 3-0 last weekend.
“We’re happy, but we haven’t done anything yet,” the owner added.
“Fans can celebrate victories for a week, but they only last for a couple of days for us because we then have to focus on the next game, namely Livorno.”
