The Partenopei are eager to maintain their 100 per cent record between Serie A and Champions League, but haven’t won this fixture since 1986.

“It doesn’t matter if people say we are favourites, as others would suggest Milan are the favourites, but either way it won’t change the game,” said Benitez in his Press conference.

“Milan are a side with a great attacking mentality and players who can make the difference. We’re talking about a very strong team. Mario Balotelli and Gonzalo Higuain are both excellent forwards of a very high level. I’m satisfied with Gonzalo, just as Milan are with Balotelli, but I think this clash will be decided by the collective and not individuals.”

The Rossoneri might be stuttering in their results and performances, but Benitez does not expect that situation to last.

“Milan are a very strong team and club. I played two Champions League Finals against them for Liverpool. A victory for Napoli would confirm we are on the right track. We’re still at the start of the season and have a lot of improvements to make. We must do well to always take our approach.”

Enthusiasm is sky high at Napoli after they went top of the Serie A table and beat Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

“The important thing is that we are working week after week, then we can eventually look at how far we’ve come,” added the Coach.

“When you play and win against Borussia Dortmund, proving this character, it is a message for the season.

“Having said that, we cannot rest on our laurels. We can still improve and can’t stop here.”

Napoli squad: Rafael, Reina, Colombo, Albiol, Britos, Cannavaro, Fernandez, Armero, Behrami, Dzemaili, Hamsik, Inler, Maggio, Mesto, Zuniga, Callejon, Mertens, Higuain, Insigne, Pandev, Duvan.
