Vladimir Petkovic insists Lazio “did not deserve to lose” against Roma and he is “happy with the way we played.”

The Biancocelesti fell 2-0 to their arch rivals in today’s Derby della Capitale, just months after a 1-0 Coppa Italia Final victory.

“I am happy with the way the team played,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we controlled the situation well and created more scoring opportunities than Roma. It was clear that whoever broke the deadlock would end up winning and unfortunately that turned out to be Roma.

“If we had taken some of our first half chances, then perhaps the game would’ve gone differently.”

Petkovic was asked whether his tactics had left Miroslav Klose too isolated in attack, but he disagreed.

“I don’t think that’s true. The team supports him well and we did create more chances than Roma did. Perhaps Klose is a little less sharp than last season, but he needs a goal to break the ice and everything will go better after that.

“I am not disappointed by the transfer strategy either. We have a few injuries at the moment, but this team will prove its worth over the course of the year.”
