Vincenzo Montella confessed to feeling “great bitterness” after Fiorentina conceded a last-gasp equaliser against Parma.

They had fought back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1, but with the last kick of the game Massimo Gobbi nodded in the decider for 2-2.

“There is great bitterness, as overall the game had so many different phases,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we didn’t do well, partly down to the great work of Parma, while I saw a different Fiorentina after the break. We had a different tempo and style, which is why we deservedly went in front.

“It takes experience to bring home these matches. We tried to keep knocking the door down when we should’ve been patient and a few seconds from the final whistle we conceded a goal.

“You could say Fiorentina deserved the win, but Parma brought home the draw, which perhaps they too deserved.”

Juan Manuel Vargas made his comeback after loan spells and injury problems to score a rare goal.

“I can say he gave me positive responses in training,” continued Montella. “The difficulty is now, as when you rediscover something that you thought you deserved, it’s hard to maintain the same level of motivation.”

There was more bad news for Fiorentina, as Giuseppe Rossi limped off with a muscular problem after just 37 minutes.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet, but we’ll run the tests tomorrow and see. It’s a shame, as he was in great shape. I was already thinking of not taking him to Ukraine against Dnipro in the Europa League, but now that decision has been forced upon me.”

The Coach was also asked about his feud with Inter boss Walter Mazzarri, which ramped up again on Sunday.

“Media need to report the whole story and not just bits. I had spoken about the fact Mazzarri has achieved the best results in the last 10 years, just like Inter did as a club, so with the wages on top that would make them seem Scudetto contenders.

“It was a compliment towards him and his team, but Mazzarri took it as an insult. I hope we can clear the air. He has my phone number.”
