Gasperini motivated for Genoa Part II

Gian Piero Gasperini says he’s looking forward to taking charge of Genoa again after returning to the outfit this week.

Gasperini has been re-hired at Marassi after the decision to sack Fabio Liverani was taken following the 2-0 loss against Napoli.

“I’m more motivated now than when I first arrived at this club,” Gasperini, who spent four years with the outfit before his axing in late 2010, stated.

“We’re currently in the third tier of Serie A clubs and we’ll now have to suffer in order to move up the table.

“I’m happy right now, but I want results.

“A bit of time has passed since my last training session here at Pegli, but it’s a bit like coming home for me.

“Three years and two championships have passed, there is a new situation now and that is incredibly stimulating.

“I’ve missed Genoa a lot.”

Gasperini, who has had unsuccessful spells at Inter and Palermo in the meantime, added: “It’s a clean slate for me, there are no players here from my previous spell in charge. I’ll need to teach the players what Genoa is about.

“There are 27 players here and four goalkeepers – too many for my needs. We’ll look to reduce the squad in January.”

Gasperini will be counting on Alberto Gilardino to net the goals needed to pull away from the relegation zone.

“I hope that he has a great season for himself and us, that way he’ll be able to make the World Cup.”

The Grifoni are 15th in the table after collecting just four points from their opening six games of the season.

Genoa are presently around 5/1 to be relegated this season, while Gilardino can be netted at 50/1 to become the Serie A top goalscorer.
